I read on another blog that someone called this the “Ultimate Steal Scam”, simply because they had some difficulty getting the deal due to their lack of a “.edu” email address. Well, yes that does stink if you’re excluded from the deal because your school does not use the .edu domain (or can’t because it wasn’t available), but it’s not in any way a reason to call this deal a SCAM. It is NOT a scam, it is legit. Besides, Microsoft recognized that some colleges/universities do not offer their students .edu email addresses, so they allow you to send them other proof as mentioned earlier. Granted, these other ways are much less convenient, but it’s still better than paying 90% higher prices. And it is very ‘generous’ of Microsoft to offer it to students who can’t afford the $200-$670 prices the software retails for…yet who need it for their writing or computing classes that require Windows PCs and MS Office programs.
